Rubies and Sapphires are the same mineral – corundum.
When corundum is red it is called ‘Ruby’
Ruby is the quintessential red gem that everyone knows. Rubies and Sapphires are actually the same mineral – corundum.
In Sanskrit, Ruby is known as Ratnaraj, the King of Gems. Today, Rubies fetch some of the highest prices per carat of any colored gemstone.
It is very rare to find Natural, unheated Rubies with good clarity. They are routinely heated to improve their clarity and color. Some level of inclusion is typically acceptable for Rubies.
Ruby is the birthstone for July and celebrates the 15th and 40th Anniversaries.
